IBI Projects:

ASEAN Policy Implementation (API)

2019-2023

Under the USAID-funded ASEAN Policy Implementation (API) Activity, IBI works to accelerate the implementation of key ASEAN policy agreements at the national level. API is building the capacity of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and ASEAN Member States (AMS) to contribute to sustainable and inclusive growth and encourage rules-based systems to support a prosperous Southeast Asia.

In doing so, API pursues two main objectives:

  1. Identify concrete needs and opportunities for supporting the implementation of targeted ASEAN policies at the Member State level.

  2. Provide concrete technical assistance to Member States to strengthen their implementation of targeted ASEAN policies.

In the first stage of the project, IBI will identify opportunities for supporting targeted ASEAN policies at the Member State level, particularly in Burma, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam. The targeted policies include the ASEAN Single Window system (a mechanism for speeding clearance procedures and reducing costs for traders), and the ASEAN Framework on Digital Data Governance (an initiative to strengthen, harmonize, and integrate greater data cooperation).

At the end of four years, USAID expects that API will have supported inclusive economic growth and prosperity, promoted transparent, rules-based governance, and contributed to regional cooperation in ASEAN.
