Client: USAID
Year Completed: 2009
As a subcontractor to Chemonics, IBI designed and led the mango value chain quality improvement outreach program. The program included practical on-field training for farmers in orchard management, adoption of Europe-GAP consistent agricultural practices, and harvest and post-harvest training to increase and protect quality. Scheduled follow-up visits verified that lessons concerning harvesting, grading, sorting, packaging, pre-cooling, and equipment configuration technologies were being applied correctly. A geo-referenced industry database was developed for a range of tracking purposes.
Establishing an appropriate enabling environment and strengthening the capacity of the private sector to respond to market demands was another key project component, IBI assisted the Ghanaian government to develop an IT policy and regulatory environment that facilitates private sector access to communications. IBI consultants formulated policy to address enforcement of anti-competition policies, improper pricing of access to bandwidth and infrastructure, and management of frequency spectrum regimes.
